Enterprise Zone
Example of a letter being distributed throughout the Hollywood entertainment business owner community. It details the benefits for hiring a veteran.
Read the letter
What would you say if we told you, ‘Hire a veteran, employ them for one year and the state will write you a check for $12,500? Keep them employed for 5 years and receive $37,500.’ Well then, you might want to sit down for this next part. The state has not only launched such a program, it has successfully been in effect for years, and with many more years to come. The program is called the Enterprise Zone. Now, while the state does not actually write you a check for hiring a veteran, they do issue you a credit voucher for each vet hired. This voucher can be considered the same as cash for payment that a business owes on their California State Tax. The amount for the first year is $12,500, for each Veteran hired.
Now, you might be saying at this point, ‘What’s the catch?’ Well, there is no “catch”, there are however restrictions. The tax credit is geographical in nature which means that companies who are allowed to participate must be located in a Enterprise Zone, so not all companies qualify. The second major qualifier is that the veteran must have either served and been honorably discharged in the last four years of the date of hire, or be Vietnam era veteran, but that’s pretty much it. There are some other small requirements regarding full time vs. part time but we can cover those details in a pamphlet we are currently putting together.
In the meantime, the maps we will soon be posting on this website, will have a general California map that highlights the areas. If you want to check if your company is eligible for this fantastic veteran program, email your company’s address and your contact info to:
